Correlations between host species of Alnus and endosymbiotic Frankia

Leaf samples of Alnus nepalensis were collected from Gaoligong Mountai·n,Yunnan Province,and samples of A.sibirica,A.tinctoria and A.mandshurica were collected from Changbai Mountain,Jilin Province.The genetic diversity of Alnus trees was analyzed by RAPD-PCR.The dendrogram of Alnus trees reflected the more genetic similarity among the populations occurring in North-east China than the populations of Alnus nepalensis.And A.sibirica and A.tinctoria had the closest relationship.Their symbiotic Frankia strains presented the similar relationship with the host plants.The genetic diversity of A.nepalensis was the highest,and the genetic diversity of A.sibirica and A.tinctoria were higher than that of A.mandshurica,while the four populations of Frankia symbionts had the same series.Since the genetic proximity of hosts corresponded with Frankia symbionts,it was suggested that co-evolution between the host plants with the microsymbionts Frankia strains have actual being,and the evolutionary pattern may have some similarity.Different clusters of Frankia strains associating with different subgroups of host plants suggested that the further genetic matching might be function in selectivity of this symbiotic association.And it is more likely that the establishment of symbiotic relationship between Alnus plants and Frankia strains is single genesis.
