YIELD-FORMING COMPONENTS OF HIGH-YIELD EARLY HYBRID-RICE WEIYOU 35 AND WEIYOU 64

The correlated response of yields and yield components through correlation and path coefficient analasis in 120 plots of the first cropping hybrid-rice of "Weiyou 35" and "Weiyou 64" at 16 counties in Fujian Province were performed in 1984. The work was repeated once more in 1985. All results were summarized in the following: 1. For both hybrid-rice "Weiyou 35" and "Weiyou 64" grown as the first crop under the mulitiple crop system showed that the direct effect and net effect between the yield and the sum total of grains were maximum, and the percentage of ripen grains was inferior 2. Path coefficient analysis revealed that the sum total of grains of "Weiyou 64" relier on the number of available panicles multiplied by the basic numbers of grains per panicle, while those of "Weiyou 35" appeared vice versa. The sum total of grains relies on the number of grains per panicle multiplied by the basic numbers of available panicles. 3. 355.05 thousand of available panicles per ha and 177.9 grains per panicle may provide a sufficient numbers for screening a high-yield variety in "Weiyou 35". In order to obtain the above good yield data, topdressing after the heading stage is considered as a key link in the cultural techique.
