Effect of Magnessium Fertilizer on Rice and the Index of Magnesium Fraction in Paddy Soil

The effect of Mg festilizes on rice was studied,and the index of Mg fraction in paddy soil was ditermined through field and culture experiments,the application of Mg festilizer could increase the grain yield when the exchangable Mg was between 19 to 86 ppm culture experiment,or between 15-49 ppm in field experiment.The lower the Mg exchangeable content was,the higher the yield increased.A close correlation between the ratio of exchangeable K/Mg and the effect of Mg fertilizer was observed.The protein content of the rice,the parcentags of milled rice and brown rice and the content of amylose were in- creased by applying Mg fertilizer when Mg was dificient in the soil.The different rice varieties requiring the Mg was in the decreasing order:Si You 30Jin Wan 6Li Min,Nan 56.The closest positive correlation between the exchangeable Mg and the relative yield or the Mg ab- sorbed by rice was found in the paddy soil derived from red earth.As for the paddy soil de- rived from red earth,the index of Mg fertility can he determined in terms of the exchangeable Mg,which was determined by 1 mol/1 ammonium acetate method.The high level was more than 26 ppm,and the low level was lower than 6 ppm.
