Yield potential and yield components of super high-yielding rice cultivars

Yield potential and yield components of super high\|yielding rice cultivars, which were bred recently in China, were investigated. The results indicated that the average yield of 16 cultivars grew in Longhai of Fujian were 9092 kg·hm -2 for early cropping and 9524 kg·hm -2 for late cropping season, which were 5 7% and 6 3% higher than those of Shanyou 63 respectively. The average yield of 16 cultivars grew at Taoyuan of Yunan was 15779 kg·hm -2 , and 3 0% higher than that of Shanyou 63.The yield components feature were large panicles based on the enough panicle number in adapting to local ecological condition,greater total spikelets number per square metre and larger sink size mainly due to great numbers of primary and secondary branches in the panicles.
