Study on Photocatalytic Degradation Properties of Supported TiO_2 Composite to Methyl Orange in Wastewater

Jiang Yuexiu Xu Huijuan Yao Zhonglin Gao Nengju Wei Limei Tong Zhangfa (College of Chemistry and Chemical Enginerring, Guangxi University, Nanning 530004)  
With the Bentonite from Ningmin of Guangxi as the carrier, the Fe(Ⅲ) doping TiO2 photocatalyst——Fe-TiO2/bentonite composite was prepared by sol-gel technique under microwave irradiation. The effect of solution pH value, the amount of photocatalyst, doping content of Fe and the initial concentration of methyl orange on photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange on composite were studied. The results show that when solution pH value is 4.21, the amount of Fe-TiO2/bentonite is 2.5g/L, doping content of Fe is 0.2%, the initial concentration of methyl orange is 20mg/L ,illumination time is 60min, the degradation rate of methyl orange solution can reached to 96.13%. The reaction of photocatalysis for methyl orange can be expressed as first-order kinetic mode within the concentration range of methyl orange between 20mg/L and 50 mg/L. The Fe-TiO2/bentonite has a potential application in dye waster treatment for its high photocatalytic activity stability.
