Research on Mineralogical Characteristics and Adsorption Behaviors of Natural Zeolite in Shangtianti,Xinyang

The natural clinoptilolite is vitric tuff type zeolite from Shangtianti in Xinyang, China. Its mineralogical characteristics were investigated by chemical composition analysis, X-ray diffraction(XRD), differential scanning calorimetry-thermogravimetry (DSC-TG), scan electronic microscopy(SEM) and N2-adsorption techniques. SiO2 (70.72%) and Al2O3 (13.15%) are the essential components in the clinoptilolite from Xinyang, and the specific surface area is 397m2/g and the effective aperture is 3.8~4.5. The pore structure can not damaged after calcined 2 h when the calcination temperature below 600 ℃. Experiments show that the capacity of modified zeolite to remove methyl orange is very strong.
