On the Political Functions of Disaster Warning Theory in Song Dynasties

YANG Xiao-hong (History Department,Yangtze Normal University,Chongqing 408100,China)
The theory of disaster warning had already existed in ancient China, and prevailed especially in Song dynasties. In ancient Chinese occultist culture,it plays,on behalf of the providence, the role of criticizing emperors' politics, therefore it has a criticizing function which other occultist theory does not have.As two Song dynasties were always invaded by the minorities from the north and there were constant wars and natural disasters, along with intense struggle within the ruling class,it was natural that the theory of disaster warning was especially prevailing during Song dynasties.
