Influence of microstructure of pyrolytic carbon on friction and wear properties of carbon/carbon composites

Pyrolytic carbon of rough laminar, smooth laminar and transition can be achieved from different technologic conditions of chemical vapor deposition. Conclusions drawn from the micro-structural observation, friction and wear properties are that, the micro-structure of pyrolytic carbon have great influence on friction and wear properties of C/C composites, rough laminar is a kind of good friction material that have high friction coefficient and steady thermal conductivity, the smooth laminar can be used as a wear resistant material with a low friction coefficient and little abrasion.
