Oxidation behavior of mixed-matrix C/C composites at low temperature

The oxidation behaviors of mixed-matrix C/C composites in static atmosphere and flowing oxygen at low temperature were investigated. The relationships between oxidation rate and time and temperature were discussed. Scanning electron microscopy was used to describe the reactivity of C/C composites. The resule shows that thermogravimetic curves of oxidation are nonlinear whether in static atmosphere or in flowing oxygen. The oxidation-starting temperature of the material in flowing oxygen is about 650℃. Oxidation rate at the beginning is higher than that of the stabilized stage. Oxidation preferentially takes place at interfaces, flaws and pores and develops deeply.
