Friction and wear behavior of C/C-SiC composites manufactured by warm moulding compaction

C/C-SiC composites were manufactured through three major steps,namely mixing short carbon fiber,silicon powder,carbon powder and binder,then molding compaction and finally reactive sintering at 1600℃.The friction and wear behavior of samples with different density,SiC content and surrounding humidity were tested.Wear debris was detected by optical microscope(OM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD),and friction and wear mechanism was discussed deeply.The results show that the porosity of the manufactured C/C-SiC composites determines its wear mechanism;SiC sustains the most pressure as a kind of hard phase,and its content influences the frictional coefficient.Surrounding humidity doesn't cause large frictional coefficient drop.
