Effects of process parameters on HIP sintered 3Y-TZP ceramics behavior

An effort has been made to study the different pressure and temperature effect on the densification behavior, mechanical properties and phase compositions of 3Y-TZP ceramics, which is HIP sintered after pressureless pre-sintered at low-temperature (1 350 ℃×4 h). The results indicated that the effect of temperature is remarkable than that of pressure on the 3Y-TZP ceramics sintered under high temperature and pressure. The final sample has optimum mechanical properties, among others fracture toughness and Vickers hardness are 14.2 MPa·m1/ 2 and 17.7 GPa, respectively, which are obtained after sintering at 1 300 ℃ for 1h under 150 MPa and be recognized as the optimum HIP sintering procedure. X-Ray Diffraction and Scanning Electronic Microscopy have been employed to study the morphologies and structures of the 3Y-TZP ceramics. The results demonstrated that ZrO2 in sintered 3Y-TZP ceramics is mainly in tetragonal structure with the size in the range of 1?3 μm, and the intergranular fracture is predominant fracture mode plus minor amounts of trasgranular fracture.
