The embed M_(23)C_6 -type carbide and abrasion resistance of open arc hardfacing alloys

Wear-resisting alloys containing 11%~13%Cr,1.6%~4.7%C,0.4%~0.5%Si,1.3%~1.5% B(mass fraction) were deposited by metal powdered-type flux-cored wire self-shielded open arc welding.The composition and the morphology of the phases were researched by optical microscopy(OM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD).The experimental results show that the cell-like α-Fe matrix disappeares gradually with increasing carbon content.Instead,some regular arranged nodular hard phases form and grow up.The back-scattered electron images show that these nodular phases are duplex microstructure,in which there are embed M23 C6 phases with 1 300 1 748 HV1.0 and the surrounded parts are M6 C-type carbides up to 1 000 HV1.0.The hardness of the hardfacing alloys firstly steps up to 63.6 HRC(Rockwell C hardness),then decreases to 60.6 HRC and the abrasion resistance is continuously improved and then descended slightly.Furthermore,the results of wet sand rubber wear tests indicate that the abrasion resistance of open arc hardfacing alloys is excellent.The analysis of worn morphology shows that the micro-cutting of abrasive particles is the dominant wear mechanism.
