To offer the laboratory basis in commercial production,the V8C7 powder was produced by carbothermal reduction method in graphite furnace by using V2O5 powder and nanometer carbon black as raw materials.Reaction product was analyzed by XRD,SEM.Effect of the raw material powder on the reaction process was discussed.The results show that the carbon black with specific surface area of 112 m2/g can accelerate the reaction process,and the too high or low specific surface area is not beneficial to the reaction for ordinary dry blending.The fine V2O5 powder can accelerate the reaction rate.The vanadium carbide powder with the spherical particle and uniform size of about 1μm can be obtained.The mechanism of reaction was analyzed.The solid-solid reaction rate is relative to particle size of reaction-component and homogeneity of mixture,as well as the area of contact between different components.
