Effects of compaction process on the density and properties of PZT ceramic

Low-voltage electromagnetic compaction(EMC) was used to compact Pb(Zr0.5Ti0.5)O3 powders in the indirect way.By selection of discharging parameters,low-voltage electromagnetic EMC increases the compacted density and improves sintering character of PZT ceramics,compared with static die compaction.Results of density test and SEM analysis show that,low-voltage EMC makes higher density ceramics than static die compaction.Moreover,the dielectric constant,piezoelectric constant and electromechanical coupling factor are higher while dielectric loss is lower,of which were compacted by low-voltage EMC.
