STUDY OF SELF-PROPAGATING HIGH TEMPERATURE SYNTHESIS

The combustion synthesis process of synthesising TiAl intermetallics and the effects of process parameters (heat temperature,compact density,heating rate and scaning particle size) on the synthesis of TiAl intermetallics were studied. The result showed that the intense combustion reaction between Ti and Al tubes place after Al has melted. The high compact density is helpful to the reaction processing and the synthesis of TiAl intermetallics when the heating rate is high. The effects of the heating rate and the particle size of Al powder on the synthesis of TiAl are related to the formation of pre-combustion phase.
