A comparative study of image magnifications between different types of DR and CR system

Objective By measuring and comparing the image magnifications of different types of DR(Digital Radiography)and CR(Computed Radiography)system,to provide reference data for the doctor when reading X-ray pictures or writing reports of diagnosis.Methods To select the same object and focus film distance,radiography with three DR system of different types and a traditional radiographtic System(use with the CR system) was taken.The film was printed with the same dry laser cameras,real size model and the same size dry film were chosen.The size of the object on the films was measured and contrasted with the real size of it,and then the image magnifications were calculated.Results With exposure of radiography in vertical chest film rack or vertical flat panel detector,the image magnifications were: 2.5% (Shimadzu radiographtic system),5%(Philips DR),5%(Siemens DR),and 2.5%(Kodak DR).In the under-bed film box or flat panel detector,the image magnifications were: 7.5%,5%,15%,and 7.5%.Conclusion With the same focus-film distance and print model,in erect position projection,Shimadzu radiographtic system and Kodak DR have the same image magnification;Philips and Siemens DR have the same image magnification.In decumbent position projection,Shimadzu radiographtic system and Kodak DR have the same image magnification,others are all different,and Siemens DR has the maximum image magnification.
