CORROSION OF 316 STAINLESS STEEL AND 825 NICKEL BASE ALLOY IN MEDIUM OF SUPERCRITICAL WATER FOR OXIDIZING CHLORPYRIFOS

Corrosion of 316 stainless steel and 825 nickel base alloy in medium of supercritical water oxidizing (SCWO) a pesticide chlorpyrifos has been studied at temperature 150~450℃ by using a continuous SCWO facility.General corrosion rates of the alloys increase with increase of temperature.825 nickel base alloy has smaller corrosion rate than 316 stainless steel.At 450℃corrosion rates were 14 3μm/h and 12 5μm/h respectively for 316 stainless steel and 825 nickel base alloy.Pitting corrosion occurs at temperature higher than 200℃.Pitting corrosion plus general dissolution at higher temperatures results in wide open pit corrosion morphology.Thermodynamic analysis shows that Fe-Cr-Ni alloys is not stable in SCWO conditions because Cr 2O 3 is not stable in these conditions.Formation of low melt point metal chlorides may also be a reason for the high corrosion rates of the alloys.
