Application of Iron-strengthening Techniques in Chinese Ancient Buildings

To protect Chinese ancient buildings,the iron-strengthening techniques in Chinese ancient wooden buildings were studied by the classified and mechanical analysis.Based on the survey and analysis results on several ancient buildings,the classification and characters of strengthening techniques by iron were discussed,the strengthening results were evaluated and the feasible advices were proposed.The results show that the iron-strengthening techniques would be helpful for enhancing the strength as well as rigidity of Chinese ancient wood buildings,however,there also exist some shortcomings such as the corrosion of iron,the destruction of wood,the inconvenient maintenance for strengthening components and so on;On the other hand,the rational strengthening techniques by iron or new strengthening materials applied in Chinese ancient wooden buildings could solve the problems as mentioned above.
