Depression symptom and related factors analysis for retired aged people

Objective To study depression symptom and related factors for retired aged people, and to improve their mental health. Method 1000 aged people were randomly selected as sample out of 80000 retired aged people in Tangshan city. Gerialric Depressive Scale (GDS) and questionnaire on general personal information were used for investigation. Results Mild depression among aged retire people was accounted for 17.2%, medium and severe depression was accounted for 5%. The occurrence rate for women is higher than that of men. The occurrence rate for those who haven’t enough entertainment or family care and support after retirement is higher. Conclusion Great attention must be paid to emotional depression of the retired people.
