Results comparison of blood glucose test at two stage during routine physical examination for middle aged and elderly people

Objective To determine IGT or diabetes in early stage Method 481 cases of patients ( age over 40 years old) were selected for blood glucose test during empty stomach, postprandial 2 hours, the change in blood glucose concentration were compared. Questionnaire survey was conducted to collect information on age, sex and occupational data. All data were analyzed by SPSS10.0 statistical software. Result There are 45 patients with increased blood glucose on empty stomach among 481 patients. Among which, 27 patients with increased blood glucose level postprandial 9 of them with IGT, and 18 with diabetes. Among the patients with normal blood glucose level, 127 of them have increased blood glucose level after eating. Among which, 112 patients have IGT, 15 patients have diabetes. There is significant difference between blood glucose level on empty stomach and 2 hour after eating (P0.001). Conclusion Test of blood glucose level was necessary for middle aged and elderly people and those who have diabetes family history during physical checkup.
