CORROSION OF Fe-Ni-Cr ALLOYS IN MOLTEN LiCl AND LiCl-25%Li_2O

The corrosion behavior of several Fe Ni Cr alloys (containing different Cr contents) in molten LiCl and LiCl 25%Li 2O was examined in a temperature range from 650 to 850℃. The experimental results show that the alloys suffered more severe attack in molten LiCl 25%Li 2O mixture than in molten LiCl at temperatures equal to or higher than 750℃. In molten LiCl 25%Li 2O, the corrosion rates of Fe Ni Cr alloys increased with the increase of Cr content when the Cr content was greater than 7%. In the two different media the corrosion products were LiCrO 2 and LiFeO 2 for Fe Ni Cr and Fe Ni alloys, respectively.
