Preparation and Characterization of Organic-intercalated Montmorillonite Composites

The calcium montmorillonite from Liaoning was organic-intercalated by using cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide after it was treated by sodium carbonate. The optimal amount of intercalating agent was reviewed. Organic-intercalated montmorillonite composites were characterized by the methods of XRD. The results show that the organic-intercalated montmorillonite composites is best when the amount of intercalating agent reaches 120% mmol/100g cation exchange capacity (CEC).
