The light-scattering properties of nanometer or micrometer magnetic particles were analysed based on Mie scattering theory.According to the widely-used nanometer or micrometer magnetic particles, the effects of the permeability, refractive index and the particle size on the scattering characteristics were analyzed. The scattering characteristics by magnetic and non-magnetic particles were also compared analytically as well as those by absorbent and transparent particles. The numerical results indicated that the permeability variation had influences on the scattering characteristics such as scattering intensity and absorption property. It was found that the scattering intensity and absorption ability increased towards high permeability while its effect on the particles scattering characteristics was restricted simultaneously by the real part of complex refractive index.
