Spectrophotometric Determination of Microamounts of Titanium Using Salicylfluorone and Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide

A sensitive method for the spectro-photometric determination of titanium with salicylfluorone and cetyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide has been developed. In an acid solution(0. 1-0. 3N H2SO_4)ti-tanium(Ⅳ)can form a ternary complex in red-purple colour with the titled reagents exhibiting maximum absorption at 540 nm. The value of molar absorption coef- ficient is 1. 64X10_5, Beer's law is obeyed for titanium of 0-5μg/25m1. Many other metal ions don't interfere the determina-tion of titanium, but the interference of tungsten (Ⅵ) is serious. This method has been used for analysis of some steel al-loys and aluminium metal with satisfac-tory results.
