Spectrophotometrie Determination of Microamounts of Tin with Salicylfluorone and Cetyltrimethylammortium Bromide in Metal Materials

A highly sensitive method for the spectrophotometric determination of tin by salicylfluorone and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide has been developed. In an acid medium(0. 5-3. 5N H_2SO_4) tin(Ⅳ)can form two ternary complexes with different concentration of salicylfluorone and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. The complex formed with excess salicylfluorone exhibits maximum absorption at 510 nm. The value of molar absorption coefficient is found to be 1. 79×10~5. The constituent of the complex is studied as 1: 4: 4(Ti: SAF: CTMAB)by the methods isomolar continuous variation and molar ratio. The calibration curve is linear in the range of 0 to 8μg/25 ml for tin. Most metal ions don't interfere with the determination of tin and the interference from some ions may be eliminated by addition of appropriate masking agents. The method has been used in the rapid determination of microamounts of tin in steels, alloys and pure metals with satisfactory results.
