KINETIC PHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF TRACE MERCURY

The catalytic action of mercury(Ⅱ) on the colour reaction between potassium ferrocyanide and a, a'-dipyridyl has been enhanced. The addition of tiourea will further increase the sensitivity of the reaction. The detection limitof Hg(Ⅱ) is 2ng/ml, variation coefficient (n=11) is 3. 72% and the recovery 96-106%. The method has been successfully applied to photometric determination of trace Hg(Ⅱ) in synthetic solution, tap water and wastewater, and results agreed with those of the conventional dithizone method.
