SPECIES DETERMINATION OF SELENIUM IN ENVIRONMENTAL SAMPLES

A speciation analysis procedure was proposed for the species determination of Se. Based on the selected determination of Se(Ⅳ)by 2, 3-diaminonaphthalene(DAN), the Se(Ⅵ)was redaced to Se(Ⅳ)by heating the sample in 4N HCl in a reflux flask. The total concentration of Se was determined after digesting the sample in HNO_3-HClO_4(5: 2)mixture. The speciation of Se in the sample can then be obtained by difference calculation. Discussion was given on the optical condition of sample treatment and the behaviour of different Se standards in each treatment. The results showed a good selectivity and a recovery of 100+6% for these standards. Sample from the drinking water, soil and plant extract were analyzed for their species distribution.
