Adsorptive Voltammetry of the Gallium (Ⅲ)-Alizarin Red System

A sensitive voltammetric determination of trace gallium is described, based on the adsorption characteristics of gallium (III) with alizarin red at a hanging mercury-drop electrode (HMDE). The experimental results show that the detection limit and the linear range of 1. 5th order differential linear sweep voltammetry in HAc-NH4Ac-alizarin red system are 1X1-10 and 1 X 10-10~1X l0-7mol/L, respectively. The method has been applied to the determination of gallium in the samples of Chinese herb medicine. The electrochemical behaviour of the gallium complex at the HMDE was also investigated.
