Fabrication and Characterization of Nanometer-sized Gold Electrode and Its Applications to Heterogeneous Catalytic Reactoins

The nanometer-sized gold electrode is fabricated. The surface of the electrode is observed by X-ray photoelectron spectrum(XPS) and scan electron microscopy (SEM). The voltammetric characteristics of the electrode are studied by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry, respectively. Simultaneous immobilization of glucose oxidase (GOD) and Fe(CN)6 3- as an electron mediator in polypyrrole (PPy) films was successfully accomplished at ultramicroband gold electrode to provide a simple biosensor capable of detecting glucose in a wide concentration range without oxygen as mediator in solution. The experimental results show that the relationship between the steady-state current of glucose at GOD/Fe (CN)6 3-/PPy electrode and the concentration of glucose is characterized by Michealis-Menten equation.
