Extraction of Rare Earth Ions From Nitrate Medium With Cyanex 923

Chu Deqing, Ma Cenxiang, Li Deqian (Laboratory of Rare Earth Chemistry and Physics, Changchun,Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Changchun 130022)
The extraction of 15 rare earths (RE(Ⅲ ) ) in nitrate medium with Cyanex 923 in n-heptane has been studied. The logarithm of distribution ratios increased with increasing atomic number and demonstrated "tetra effect". The extraction mechanisms, The separation factors and the effect of temperature on the extraction have been examined. The results showed that Cyanex 923 could be applied to the separation of La from rare earth mixtures, Y from heavier rare earth mixtures. The IR spectrum of the extracted complex has also been discussed.
