Fluorimetric Determination of Iron with p-Aminophenol

A new sensitive and selective fluorimetric method for the determination of trace iron was stuided.The method is based on the oxidation action of p-aminophenol by iron(Ⅲ) in dilute sulfuric acid medium and the fluorescence intensity of the oxidation product was measured at the excitation wavelength of 292.0 nm and the emission wavelength of 328.0nm.Under the optimum condition,the linear range of the determination of iron was 0.005 ~0.40 μg/L, and the detection lindt for iron(Ⅲ) was 0.5 μg/L. The method has been applied to the determination of trace iron in milk powder and human hair samples with satisfactory results.
