Tribasic Cross-linker Molecular Imprinted Chiral Stationary Phase

Molecular imprinted polymers against N-Cbz-L-Trp utilizing 2-VP + AM as combined functional monomer and trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TRIM) as tribasic cross-linker were prepared and evaluated in HPLC mode.Comparing with molecular imprinted polymer (MIP) utilizing ethylene glycoldimethacrylate (EDMA) as cross-linker, it was found that MIP utilizing TRIM as cross-linker showed higher cross-link intensity and baseline chiral Separation of the template enantiomer was achieved on a shorter column. More functional monomers were used and more template molecules were imprinted in the MIP utilizing TRIM as cross-linker. This could result in more recognition cavities in the polymer and the number of the imprinted cavities in unit weight of chiral stationary phase was greater. So the capacity factor was increased and column capacity was high enough for preparation. Meanwhile, the higher specific recognition ability of the imprinted cavities to the imprinted molecule and enantiomers alike leads to the higher chiral cross-selectivity because of more ordered arrangement of the tribasic cross-linked MIP.
