Separation of 5,8,11,14,17-Eicodapentaenoic Acid and 4,7,10,13,16,19-Docosahemanoic Acid by Supercritical Fluid Chromatography

The separation of 5,8,11,14,17-eicodapentaenoic acid(E PA) and 4,7,10,13,16,19-docosahemanoic acid(DHA) by supercritical fluid chroma tography (SFC) with carbon dioxide as mobile phase using an ODS column was studi ed. The influence of operation temperature and pressure on the capacity factors (k′) and the resolution (R) was investigated. The capacity factors of the co mpounds increased with increasing temperature and decreased with increasing pres sure under the experimental conditions. The results were explained on the basis of the solubility of EPA and DHA in supercritical carbon dioxide.
