Catalytic Spectrophotometric Determination of Chromium Ⅵ by the Oxidative Coupling Reaction of p-Amino-N,N- dimethylaniline with N,N-Dimethylaniline

A catalytic spectrophotometic method for the determination of trace chromium? is reported. The method is based on the catalytic action of chromium? on the oxidative coupling reaction of p amino N,N dimethylaniline dihydrochloride and N,N dimethylaniline in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. The mechanism of the reaction was discussed and its optimum conditions were established. The linear range of this method was 0.00~0.12 mg/L and the relative standard deviation was found to be 0.1% for Cr? (11 replicates). The detection limit for Cr? is 1.0×10 -7 g/L. The method was used to determine Cr? in water sample successfully.
