Kinetic-Spectrophotometric Determination of Trace Molybdenum by Hydrogen Peroxide-Potassium Iodide-Tetrabase New System

A new kinetic spectrophotometric method for the determination of trace amounts of molybdenum? has been proposed. It is based on the molybdenum? catalysed coloring reaction of tetrabase[4,4′-bis(dimethyla-mino)diphenylmethane] oxidized by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of potassium iodide in hydrochloric acid medium. The apparent activation energy of catalytic reaction is 49.46 kJ/mol. The linear range of determination of molybdenum is 0~40 μg/L, the detection limit is 4.84×10 -10 g/mL. The method has been used for the determination of trace amounts of molybdenum in mung bean and black soybean with satisfactory results. The mechanism of the reaction was discussed in detail.
