Effects of Operating Parameters on the Extraction of Resveratrol in Huzhang(Polygonum Cuspidatum)Using Microwave-Assisted Extraction

The effects of operating parameters: solvent type, microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) time and temperature, microwave power, sample particle size and moisture on the extraction of resveratrol in Huzhang (polygonum cuspidatum) using MAE were studied. It is found that methanol and acetone are the optimal solvents for extracting resveratrol in Huzhang because of their high dielectric constants and dissipation factors. The effects of microwave extraction time and temperature, as well as the sample particle size on the yield of resveratrol are most significant, the sample moisture is the next. The effect of microwave power is insignificant within the examined power range of 300~1200 W. The optimum parameters are: extracting temperature 80℃, extracting time 15 min; microwave power 800~900 W, particle size 0.30~0.45 mm, sample moisture ~20%.
