Synthesis of Bis(2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone)hydrazine and Its Fluorescence Quenching Reaction with Strontium Ions

A new fluorescent reagent bis(2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone) hydrazine was synthesized. The reagent exhibits a maximum of fluorescence emission spectrum at 491.2 nm. The reagent can form a complex with strontium ion to cause its fluorescence quenching. A new spectrofluorimetric method for the determination of trace strontium using this reagent has been developed. The linear range of the method is from 0.10 to 50.0 μg/L and the detection limit is 0.056 μg/L of strontium. The method has been used to determine trace strontium in mineral water samples with satisfactory results.
