The multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) modified electrode has been fabricated and its electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of p benzenediol was investigated. The effect of the type and acidity of electrolytes , the thickness of MWNT modified layer, scan rates on the voltammetric behavior of p benzenediol were also studied to acquire optimum conditions for detecting the p benzenediol. In 0.1 mol/L phosphate buffer (pH 6.0), when differential pulse voltammetric method was used, there was an excellent linearity between oxidation current and concentration of p benzenediol in the range of 5.0×10 -6 ~1.1×10 -3 mol/L with a detection limit of 2.7×10 -6 mol/L. A lot of metal ions, ascorbic acid, and equimultiple phenol etc. did not interfere with the determination. The results revealed that the modified electrode could be used to the determination of p benzenediol in imitative waste water samples with good results.
