Determination of 24 Preservatives in Cosmetics by Reversed Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography

A reversed phase high performance liquid chromatographic(RP-HPLC)method has been developed for the simultaneous determination of twenty-four preservatives in cosmetics.A Kromasil C18 column was used with phosphate buffer solution(pH=4.26) as the mobile phase under the condition of gradient elution.Preservatives were extracted with methanol by ultrasonic,then analyzed by RP-HPLC-diode array detection.The pre-treatment method of sample and the chromatographic condition of analysis were critically examined.The relative standard deviations(RSD) were 1.3%-3.3%,recoveries were 90.6%-97.8%,all the correlation coefficients(r) were no less than 0.9997.The method was precise and accurate,and could be used for analyzing the preservatives in cosmetic products.
