Preparation of Nanometer-size Zirconium Dioxide and Its Application in Chromium Ion(Ⅵ) Treatment

Nanometer-size zirconium dioxide has been prepared by Sol-Gel process, and powders has been characterized by TEM. The results showed that the average grain size was between 20~30 nm. The absorption of nanometer-sized zirconium dioxide to chromium ion(Ⅵ) have been studied. The absorption percentage was eighty-six percent or more when the rate of zirconium dioxide to chromium was 1∶2900 and the pH value was keeping at four, stirring for two hour. Cr(Ⅵ) was absolutely eluted by 2 mol/L NaOH solution. The absorption percentage of the recovered zirconium dioxide remained high. The method can be used to treat Cr(Ⅵ) pollution in water and this paper is a reference of studying absorption of nanometer-sized materials.
