Analysis of Hydrocarbon Composition in Qinghai Outcropping Oil Sand Bitumen

The hydrocarbon composition and distribution of outcropping oil sand bitumen in Qinghai have been analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometer(GC/MS). The oil sand bitumen was formed by the biologically degraded crude oil which originates from terrigenous organic matter. As it occurs in the special geographic and geological environment, this oil sand bitumen has distinctive characteristics different obviously from those in other places. It possesses very high saturate content, regular normal hydrocarbon distribution and high content of light oil constituents, i.e., it is still in the stage of lower biological degradation. Based on these facts, a new mining system should be used.
