Kinetic Spectrophotometric Determination of Resorcinol Based on the Enhanced Effect of Resorcinol on the Oxidation Reaction of Potassium Periodate and Bromocresol Purple

A novel kinetic spectrophotometric method for the determination of trace amounts of resorcinol has been described. It is based on the enhanced effect of resorcinol on the reaction of potassium periodate oxidizing bromocresol purple in basic media at 100℃. The linear range of determination is 0.10~5.00 μg/mL for the resorcinol, and the detection limit is 0.041μg/mL. The method has been applied to determine the content of resorcinol in lake water and Piyanning tincture sample with satisfactory results.
