Alizarin Red-H_2O_2-Cetyl Pyridine Bromide(CPB)-Alanine System for Spectrophotometric Determination of Trace Manganese

A new catalytic spectrophotometric method for the determination of trace amout of Mn(Ⅱ) has been developed.The method is based on the catalytic effect of Mn(Ⅱ)on oxidation of alizarin red peroxide by peroxide using alanine as an activator and cationic surfactant of cetyl pyridine bromide(CPB) as sensitizer.The optimum reaction condition was studied.The influences of the pH and the coexisted ions on the determination were discussed.At the optimum experimental conditions,the linear range was 10~360 μg /L,the detection limit is 2.01×10~(-8)g/L.The sensitivity was 10 times higher than that in the absence of the surfactant.The method can be used for the determination of Mn(Ⅱ) in alcohol with satifactory results.
