Experimental study on relationship between coal mechanical characteristics and interior crack evolution using CT technique

In order to observe interior structure variation and crack evolution,coal samples under different axial load were scanned using X-ray industrial CT,and the CT images under different stresses were obtained.Based on the statistical analysis on the characteristic values of the CT images and the differences among images,the relationship between rock interior crack evolution and macro-deformation was investigated.The results show that the grey statistical characteristic value variations of CT images indicate the density alteration,which indirectly reflect the crack development.The differences among images characterize the volume evolution of interior crack deflects according to each voxel.The mean and variance of the image differences better describe the relationship between interior crack variation and macro deformation under different stresses.
