Spectrophotometric Determination of Microamounts of Titanium and Small Amounts of Molybdenum in Steels with Phenylfluorone and Triton X-100

Fu Jiakun (Guiyang Mining Machine Works. Guizhou).  
A spectrophotometric method has been developed for determining microamounts of Ti and small amounts of Mo in aqueous solution by Ti(Mo)-phenyl fluorone(PF)-Triton X-100 system. The sensitivity of the method is high. The complex of Ti(Mo) has maximum absorption at 535nm (525nm) and its molar absorptivity is 1.50×10~5 (4.05×10~4). Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0—6μg Ti/25 mL, 0—22μg Mo/25 mL. The method is very simple and has good accuracy, reproducibility and stability. It can be applied directly to the spectrophotometric determination of microamounts of Ti and small amounts of Mo in steels.
