A microwaveassisted extraction (MAE) method for the determination of prometryne in vegetable samples by GCMS was developed. Different extraction solvents were compared for the extraction of prometryne in vegetable samples. Dichloromethane was the selected as the extraction solvent because it yielded good recovery, and was very convenient for the following procedure. The MAE conditions, such as the extraction solvent volume, microwave radiation time, and power output, were optimized by a threelevel orthogonal array design. The synthetic vegetable samples were determined under the optimum conditions, the recoveries were 92.5%~99.5% with RSD of 11%~5.0% (n=3). The results agreed quite well with those obtained by a conventional mechanically shaking extraction. The linear range of the method was from 1.0 to 400 ng/g with the detection limit of 0.22 ng/g.
