Separation and preconcentration of trace lead in cobalt sulfate by coprecipitation with cerium phosphate

A separation and preconcentration method by coprecipitation with cerium phosphate for the determination of trace lead (Ⅱ) in cobalt sulfate was studied using flame atomic absorption spectrometry. Several parameters influencing the efficiency of the coprecipitation method were evaluated including pH of water and CoSO_4 solution, concentration of Ce(NO_3)_3 solution and H_3PO_4. Lead was quantitatively coprecipitated with CePO_4 from CoSO_4 solution in the range of pH 3.0~4.0. The determination limit is 5.59×10~(-2) mg/L and the standard addition recovery is 98.32%. The interference of matrix has been ultimately overcome and the satisfactory results have been obtained.
