Fluorescence method for the determination of trace copper (Ⅱ) with new fluorescence reagent 5-(4-fluorophenylazo)-8-salicylideneaminoquinoline

Preparation and characterization of new fluorescence reagent 5-(4-fluorophenylazo)-8-salicylidene-aminoquinoline were studied. The fluorescence intensity was studied based on the reaction of Cu~(2+) with p-FPSAQ at different pH values. At pH 8.5, the relative fluorescence intensity was enhanced when copper ion was added. A fluorescence enhancing method for the determination of trace copper (Ⅱ) was developed. Under the optimum conditions, the response is linearly proportional to the concentration of copper (Ⅱ) ion between 5.0 and 90.0 ng/L. The limit of detection is 2.43 ng/L for copper (Ⅱ) ion. The method has been used to determine trace amounts of copper (Ⅱ) ion in water samples, and it is a simple, rapid, sensitive and specific method.
