Determination of boron in blood and sperm by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS)

A method was developed for the determination of boron in blood and sperm samples by ICP-MS. HNO_3 with H_2O_2 and NH_3·H_2O with mannitol were tested to dispose blood and sperm samples. Beryllium was used as an internal standard to compensate for non-spectroscopic carbon matrix effect and instrument shift. Standard addition method was performed to validate the reliability of the two methods, and the results were in agreement with external standard method. Multi-elements including Cr, Cu, Cd, Ba, Sr, Mn, Co, Tl, Li, Pb, Zn, Sc, Ti, V and As can be measured simultaneously. The results of the two methods were correlative (r=0.999). The detection limits are 0.11 and 0.06 ng/mL respectively. The contents of boron in blood and sperm of boron mineral area were also determined with the two methods.
