Synthesis of a new reagent 8-(2-benzothiazolylazo)-5-aminoquinoline(8-BTA-5-AQ) and its color reaction with cobalt(Ⅱ)

In this paper,three kinds of 5-aminoquinoline-8-azo reagents have been synthesized.Their color reactions with cobalt(Ⅱ) have been studied,especially the reaction of 8-BTA-5-AQ with cobalt(Ⅱ) has been studied in detail.In a medium of pH 3.8 8-BTA-5-AQ reacts with cobalt(Ⅱ) to form a mauve complex,exhibiting maximum absorbance at 620 nm,the molar absorptivity is 5.5×104 L·mol-1·cm-1.Beer′s law is obeyed for 0~10 μg of cobalt in 25 mL of solution.The method has been successfully applied to the spectrophotometric determination of microl amounts of cobalt in the alloy steel with satisfactory results.
